Miller Family Drops Anchor In Hometown

By Cheri Tatum

From The News Examiner

Mitch Miller and his son Justin have dreamed of owning a marina for some time with their search taking them all over the South.

That dream is now coming true in their hometown because the father and son have purchased Anchor High Marina on River Road in Hendersonville.

“We have always been on the water, and we have been looking for about three years,” Mitch Miller said.

Miller grew up around Old Hickory Lake and graduated from Hendersonville High School. He left 14 years ago to work in NASCAR merchandising and to race offshore powerboats.

Miller is a two-time world champion and three-time national champion. He was inducted into the APBA Hall of Champions in 2003.

He also owned and operated successful businesses in the NASCAR merchandising industry.

The step into owning a marina, particularly working in boat sales, was a natural one for Miller.

“I know the manufacturers and am working with them,” he said, adding he has established relationships with several manufacturers including Reggie Fountain of Fountain Powerboats and Randy Scism of Marine Technologies.

To return to his hometown and own a marina, Miller said, is the opportunity of a lifetime.

For his son, Justin, who also grew up in Hendersonville, the purchase of the marina is providing him the chance to work closely with his father.

Married to Kelli Miller, the couple has a four-year-old son, Bryce.

Miller said having a grandson close by is also an advantage to coming home.

“I’m just excited to be back in Hendersonville,” he said.

Miller added there are plans to renovate the gas slips at the marina and back improvements to the in-house boat storage facility.

Anchor High Marina has 140 slips and 100 inside storage spaces.

“We want this to be a first-class place,” he said.
